We are thrilled to congratulate this year’s winners of the ecybermission.com STEM Competition! Dr. Ochsner’s 7th and 8th grade Robotics students participated in the U.S. Army-sponsored educational science fair for students in grades 6–9 in the United States. The contest has groups of 2-4 students who submit “Mission Folders” using the Engineering Design Process. Over 1800 groups competed.
7th Grade Division:
Two of our 7th-grade groups won 2nd in State and Honorable Mention for their projects.
The Popcorn Monsters - William A., Nathan E., Liam N., and Matthew M. were awarded an Honorable Mention for their project on a robotic nursing assistant.
Two Right Feet - Neala D. and Ysa C. won 2nd Place in the State Regional Finals ($500 each) for their project on a laser-powered delivery system and solar panels in the stratosphere.
8th Grade Division:
Geriatric Robots - Lily D., Abby S., and Maggie F. won First in State in the Regional Finals and are now National Finalists for their project on an elderly fall detector. They won $4,000 each and an all-expenses paid trip to attend the 4-day National Judging and Educational Event (NJ&EE) in Chantilly, VA, June 24-28.
The NJ&EE event includes many opportunities to meet others, physical training, various workshops and panels, and the DoD STEM Workshops, which is a day working with scientists and engineers from different sectors of the DoD.
