Sharing Parish - St. Benedict the African East

Contact: Adrienne Timm

Every parish in the Archdiocese is assigned a sister parish. Since the inception of this ministry over 45 years ago, our sister parish has been St. Benedict the African East. We provide monthly monetary support and resources and hold an annual clothing drive to assist the parish.

Our Lady of the Angels Mission

Contact: Adrienne Timm

Volunteers go to Our Lady of the Angels Mission on the first Saturday of every month to help distribute food to the neighborhood with The Greater Chicago Food Depository. Our volunteers have helped clean and renovate the rectory, Kelly Hall, the newly-rededicated convent, and now the actual church. Our Holy Family Guild works to maintain the food pantry there.

Lenten Almsgiving

Contact: Adrienne Timm

The season of Lent tells us to pray, fast, and give sacrifice. In accordance with that, each year our staff chooses a not-for-profit ministry or organization to benefit from our parish almsgiving. To qualify as one of our recipients, the not-for-profit's mission must be aligned with the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. Our school and religious education programs also participate in our parish Lenten almsgiving.

Holiday Outreach

Contact: Adrienne Timm

Each year special Thanksgiving food boxes and turkeys are distributed to our food pantry patrons. This distribution is possible through our annual parish-wide Thanksgiving food drive during the second weekend of November. We also distribute special Christmas food boxes with hams each year as well as organize an adopt-a-family program to provide Christmas gifts to the needy in our area.

General Assistance

Contact: Adrienne Timm

Through the goodness of parishioners, Social Service Ministry is often able to offer temporary housing, rental assistance, help with utilities, medications, eye glasses, clothes, coats, boots, etc., where there is proven need. This is determined by an extensive intake which includes picture identification, legal documents, and cross-checking information.

Food Pantry

Contact: Adrienne Timm

Our food pantry currently serves 200 households in need each month. Non-perishable food items and monetary donations come from our parishioners and the Park Ridge community. Mother Teresa and St. Ann's Guild members shelve food donations in the pantry. Mother Teresa's Guild also purchases ground beef each month from their Labors of Love fundraising event. St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church members, who serve on their social concerns board, volunteer and drop off monthly food and fund donations.

How it Works

Since COVID 19, our food distribution is done curbside on Summit Ave, 8 - 10 a.m., on the last Saturday of each month, except in November and December when it is open on the third Saturday to accommodate our holiday outreach. The food pantry is located on campus in the southeast corner of the Kinane Center with its own outside entry. A dropbox from the outside is provided for non perishable food donations. Monetary donations to the food pantry are used to supplement our inventory.

New clients need a photo ID showing current address plus another proof of name and address to register for the pantry.

We serve residents from the following zip codes; 60068, 60016, 60018, 60174 and 60631.

Centennial Garden

Contact: Adrienne Timm

As part of the celebration of the Parish Centennial, we began a vegetable garden to provide fresh, organic produce to the patrons of our food pantry. It is maintained by parish volunteers who sponsor and tend to a raised bed throughout the growing season.
