On Sunday February 26th, our RCIA Catechumens (those who are to be baptized) and Candidates (those who will come into the full communion of the Catholic and the reception of the Sacraments of Holy Communion and Confirmation) went to Holy Name Cathedral for the Rite of Election and the Call to Continuing Conversion. They were presented, along with hundreds more coming from the different parishes in the Archdiocese of Chicago who are going through the same journey, for the first of four celebrations of these Rites, to Bishop Bob Lombardo who, in the name of the Church, called them to the Easter sacraments of initiation.
Earlier in the morning of that same day, the Candidates attended the 10:30am Mass in the upper church to celebrate the Rite of Sending. During that rite, their sponsors and our parish sponsors also affirmed that the Candidates were ready to be presented to the bishop. They also received the encouragement and the support of the parishioners attending the Mass.
The RCIA Candidates are preparing to come into the full communion of the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil. They will be joined by an adult Catholic who is preparing to be confirmed at the Easter Vigil.
Please keep our RCIA Candidates, and our adult Confirmation candidate in your prayers as they journey through the intense, final preparation period leading up to the Easter Vigil. We now have prayer cards for each of the candidates at the entrances of the church. Please pick one — or a few them — up and pray for them.
