Honoring our Dear Fr. Britto

If you were at St. Paul on June 2nd, it was hard to miss the sea of blue that overtook campus that day. The school children were clad in t-shirts designed in Fr. Britto’s favorite color, proudly displaying his name over their hearts. The message on the back of the shirts read: He imprinted his ministry on our hearts. This came from Fr. Britto’s expressed desire to have his name written not on any buildings, but on the hearts of people.

Presentation of Housewarming Gifts by St. Paul of the Cross' First Graders

At the all-school Mass that day, the school children helped deliver some very special surprises to Fr. Britto as they presented him with photos of all of the wonderful housewarming gifts parishioners purchased for him over the last several months. Unfortunately, because of COVID, we could not plan a housewarming party during which to present these gifts, but as deeply as Fr. Britto loves the children of St. Paul of the Cross, this manner of presentation seemed to have the perfect touch. Fr. Britto was surprised and profoundly touched by all of the love he received from the school children and the parishioners who have showered him with wonderful gifts from plates to pots and pans, kettles to Keurigs, and so much more! Thank you for extending such warm generosity to Fr. Britto and setting him up very well for his new home.

The Mass was livestreamed and can be viewed on St. Paul’s YouTube channel here.

St. Paul of the Cross Triptych in Upper Grade Center

After the all-school Mass, Fr. Britto was brought to the Upper Grade Center where another special surprise awaited him. Fr. Britto has made such an amazing impact on the St. Paul of the Cross community. To honor him, a mural of Saint Paul was painted by Natalie Whalen, SPC's art teacher, and installed in the Upper Grade Center. The painting is a seven-foot-tall triptych with St. Paul in the center. Sun rays radiate from his heart and adorn the panels on either side of him, just as Fr. Britto has made a lasting impact on our hearts. The painting is done with acrylic paints and has metallic mosaic accents and gold leaf to represent the warmth that Fr. Britto has brought to our community, a warmth that will continue to glow brightly.

We thank God to have had Fr. Britto with us for twelve years and we wish him the best as he embarks upon his retirement. Scroll down to see photos from the very special day.
