Adoration Chapel Update

Dear St. Paul of the Cross Adorers,

Thank you for your desire and commitment to spend prayerful time in the presence of our Eucharistic Lord. I am sure He understands your anguish over not being able to adore Him in the Blessed Sacrament lately because of this virus. I would like to express my gratitude and that of the parish for your ministry of prayer whether in the chapel or at home. Although I am fully convinced that abundant blessings flow on the parish because of our adoration chapel, I also feel the Lord’s special grace even during this difficult time when we are unable to gather as before.

Every now and then someone asks me when the chapel will be re-opened. Please believe me when I say, “I am as eager as you are to reopen.” However, until the Archdiocese of Chicago gives us the go ahead, we cannot bring our adorers back. I have to admit that we have several obstacles to reopening. The space is limited and if we respect social distancing, we can allow only a handful of people to pray in the chapel at any given time. Who will make sure that, at any time of day or night, we do not exceed that number? Who will take care of keeping the space cleaned and disinfected between adorers? It is impossible to get volunteers to ensure that the protocols are followed. For these and other reasons, we do not expect the chapel to be open anytime soon. I am really sorry about that.

During this hiatus I have been informed that our coordinators who have been taking care of the chapel have decided to step down. I want to express my sincere gratitude to Bob and Christine Maszka, and to Vince and Margaret Ross, who have given of themselves to guarantee that our chapel is adequately filled with adorers at all times. They have spent endless hours, making phone calls, updating lists, creating schedules, and solving problems. May our Eucharistic Lord reward them abundantly here and hereafter!

Vince Ross has told me that it is difficult for one or two individuals to manage the chapel. The work required will be better handled by a group. Following his suggestion, I would like to form a group of 6 to 8 individuals who can invest time in this ministry. I would like to have this group in place much before normalcy returns. We will have to define clearly the roles the group will undertake. Vince continues to be the contact person for the adoration chapel. If you would like to volunteer to be part of this group, please reach out to him either by calling 847-692-7565 or by emailing him at

May God bless you and keep you! Let us look forward to the day when the chapel will be open and we can once again delight in His Eucharistic presence. Please pray for the parish and for us priests.

Yours warmly,
