As the governor has opened up Illinois, the archdiocese has allowed us to reopen gradually. After completing all the protocols required by the archdiocese, we have received certification for Phase 1 and 1A. In this phase, we are allowed to celebrate the sacraments (confession, weddings, baptisms and funerals) with only 10 people in the church. We are also permitted to keep the church open for private prayer with 10 people at a time. Each individual will be allowed to pray in church for 20 minutes and reservations are required. We will inform the parish of the exact dates when all this will begin. The archdiocese encourages us to open the church slowly so that we can learn from our experience and make improvements along the way. We thank you for being patient with us.

If someone is at the point of death and needs last rites, please call 847-321-5286 to contact a priest.

For other reasons, please call the parish office at 847-825-7605 and your call will be returned within 24 hours.

Easter Letter

More than ever, we need Easter now. With fear and uncertainty hanging over us, we need the assurance of the Risen Christ Who has conquered sin and death. More than ever, we need the assurance of life when so many of our fellow Americans are falling victim to this dangerous virus. More than ever, we need the hope and joy that Easter brings because a heavy pall of darkness and sadness envelopes us.

Even though we may not be able to celebrate Easter in the way we usually do, let us celebrate it in our hearts and our homes. Let us visit the Empty Tomb with the holy women that we may witness the signs of Jesus’ resurrection. Let us hold on to the Risen Lord just like Mary Magdalene until we recognize Him as Teacher. Let us accompany the two disillusioned disciples on the road to Emmaus so that He may open our eyes at the Breaking of the Bread. Let us profess our undying love for Him just as Peter did on the shores of Lake Galilee. Let this Easter become real and alive.

I will be praying for each and every one of you during my Easter Mass. I know you cannot be with us physically but you will be present spiritually. I will pray that just like Paul, the apostle, we will feel in our bodies and spirits the resurrection of Christ. Paul, who had not met the historical Jesus in the same way as did the other apostles, proclaimed the Risen Christ more powerfully than anyone else. This Easter may we all imitate this great apostle who passionately loved the Master. Just like him, we will then be able to voice the words that he wrote in his Letter to the Romans:

If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all - how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died - more than that, who was raised to life - is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

As I am wishing you the blessings of this Holy Day, I am also making an appeal to you. We are in need of your financial support. In our budget, we hope to receive $80,000 for Easter and we do not know how we will reach this target. We have to pay our bills, support our staff and maintain our buildings. We need you. If you already are an online donor, we thank you! If not, it is now easier than ever to sign up. You can visit our website at www.spc-church.org and select the “Donate” tab on the right side of the screen. This will take you to our online giving page. Or, using your mobile phone, you can TEXT TO DONATE! Just text the word “Donate” to this number: 847-865-8370. This will take you to a link to Give Central. You will then be prompted to input your donor info. It is safe, secure, and easy. Alternatively, please also consider mailing your donation directly to: St. Paul of the Cross Church, 320 S. Washington Ave, Park Ridge, Il 60068.

I thank you sincerely. I am praying for you and for your entire family. May God keep us safe and bring us back to our church to celebrate the Eucharist as a community!
