Palm Sunday 2018

Another season of Lent is almost over. We are now entering into the holiest of weeks when we will celebrate the mysteries of Jesus’ suffering, death and resurrection. We are now ready to witness the end of our sojourners’ journey towards the Easter sacraments. How shall we celebrate our high holy days?

I would like to invite each and every one of us to hark back to the last hours of Jesus’ earthly life. As far as possible, let us strive to attend each day of the Sacred Triduum.

Let us come together on Holy Thursday to celebrate the gifts of Christ’s boundless love. He demonstrated that love when He gave us Himself in the Eucharist as food for our journey. He challenged us to love as He loved by becoming the servant to His disciples and by washing their feet. In a special way He called on His priests to imitate His boundless love by the way they lay down their life for the faithful.

Let us come together on Good Friday to celebrate the gifts of Christ’s heroic self-sacrifice. Let us follow Jesus’ steps to Mount Calvary as we carry our personal crosses after the Master and pray for all those who carry their crosses of injustice and oppression. Let us reverently kiss the Cross of Christ as we unite our sufferings to His. Let us prayerfully keep watch over the lifeless body of Jesus laid in the tomb, waiting for Easter Sunday.

Let us come together on Holy Saturday to celebrate the gifts of Christ’s offer of new life. Let us keep vigil on Saturday night as we make an epic journey through God’s Word and re-live the history of God’s salvation. Let us sing the praises of Christ, the Light of the World, who drives away the darkness of sin. Let us rejoice with those sojourners who will enter the baptismal font to be reborn in the Spirit. Let us welcome those sojourners who will come into full communion with the Catholic Church. Let our sacred space resound once again with the joyful strains of alleluia because the Lord is risen!

At St Paul of the Cross we have a long-standing tradition of celebrating these three holy days in the most wonderful manner. We shall continue that tradition. We will be celebrating some of the most beautiful, moving, significant liturgies in these coming days. I earnestly appeal to each and every one of you to participate in as many of them as possible. Let us walk through the dark phase of Christ’s last hours so that we can with hope-filled hearts usher in the Easter morn.

I wish each of you and your loved ones “Happy Easter!” May the Risen Lord fill you with His peace and joy not only now but all through the Easter season! I will be praying for you during all my Easter Masses. Please pray for me and for our parish.

Mission Statement: As children of God, living in a Catholic community of faith, we are united by the Gospel message of Jesus Christ. Aware that all we have is gift and grace from our Heavenly Father, we strive to give of our time, talent and treasure to build His kingdom on earth. We live this mission, challenged by the Word, nurtured by the Sacraments, and enlivened by the Spirit, to serve our brothers and sisters in peace, justice and dignity. All are welcome on this journey.
